2026 New Works & Artist-In-Residence Program | Harvestworks

Harvestworks is pleased to announce the 2026 Artists-in-Residence Program, a national initiative supporting contemporary American artists and legal U.S. residents working at the intersection of art and technology.
Selected artists will develop and present new projects that explore how technology can deepen our understanding of the world, provoke new ideas, and ignite the imagination. Each artist will receive a $5,000 commission — consisting of a $2,000 artist fee and $3,000 allocated for T.E.A.M. Lab activities, including research, production, programming, and prototyping — to produce a new work integrating technology, sound, and visual art.
Residencies take place at Harvestworks’ Technology, Engineering, Art and Music Lab (T.E.A.M.) in New York City — a creative hub dedicated to advancing experimental art forms that merge disciplines, challenge boundaries, and inspire innovation.
Structure and Timeline
Announcement of Selected Artists
Late January 2026
A new cohort of artists-in-residence will be announced. Each selected artist will receive detailed onboarding information and schedule their introductory meeting. Each artist will meet one-on-one with the Director of Harvestworks to review their project proposal, outline a development plan, and identify production and technical needs.
Development and Production Phase
Starting in February 2026
During this period, artists will develop and produce their new works with the support of Harvestworks.
Each artist receives:
– Access to studio space at the Technology, Engineering, Art and Music Lab (T.E.A.M.)
– Technical assistance from an assigned engineer
– Opportunities for project feedback, mentorship, and peer support within the residency cohort
Public Presentation
Summer/Fall/Winter 2026
Works produced through the Harvestworks Residency will be presented to the public in the form of performances, presentations, or exhibitions organized by Harvestworks. All residency projects and associated activities must be completed by December 31, 2026.
Proposals
Artworks may take the form of multichannel audio or video installations, live performances incorporating interactive systems and real-time processing, or data visualizations presented as single- or multi-channel video or computer-based imagery. Proposals may also include works utilizing Augmented Reality (AR) or Virtual Reality (VR) platforms.
Project descriptions may encompass the recording and mastering of new musical compositions or sound artworks, the development of code-based or algorithmic media, or explorations in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Harvestworks encourages the creation of new technologies for performance and exhibition, such as custom-built instruments or innovative display systems.
Eligibility
Individual Artists Only: The New Works program is intended for individual working artists.
Collaborations and Groups: Collaborations, groups, ensembles, and collectives may apply but must designate a Lead Artist to represent the project.
New Work Requirement: Only proposals for new works are accepted. Projects documenting existing works are ineligible.
Student Eligibility: Students, including PhD candidates currently enrolled in a university, are not eligible.
Past Recipients: Artists who received the program award in the past two years are ineligible to apply this year.
Residency Requirement: Lead Artists must reside in the U.S.
Residencies run from January, 2026, through December 31, 2026.
