Lillian "Peach" Carol Gibson
Lillian Carol Gibson died peacefully at Vincentian Schenley Gardens, an assisted living facility in Pittsburgh, PA, where she was under the compassionate care of Bethany Hospice and Palliative care.
Miss Gibson or “Peach” as she was known, was the last surviving member of her family. She was born in Buckhannon, WV, on August 31, 1939, a daughter of the late Charles and Russie Simmons Gibson. Greeting her at Heaven’s gate with her parents are her siblings: Garvestine Miller, Alice McCartney, Gwendolyn “Peggy” Gibson, and Charles C. Gibson.
During the summers of her high school years, Peach traveled to Ambridge, PA, where her brother lived and became familiar with the Pittsburgh area. After graduating from Buckhannon-Upshur High School, Peach received a scholarship and enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh. She graduated from Pitt with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Peach was then employed by the U.S. Steel Corporation and worked in their offices in the U.S. Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh for thirty years.
She had a very active social life in Pittsburgh and purchased a condominium in the Oakland area of the city. Peach enjoyed the social and cultural activities of the city, and traveled the United States and Europe. As a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, she practiced the art of Collage and was recognized for her art in Juried Exhibits.
Peach had a great interest in local history and was a member of the Upshur County Historical Society. She wrote and had published several articles about local history. She established a trust fund with the Pittsburgh Foundation for the support of the Society and for the care of Snell Cemetery.
She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and attended the Saint Paul’s Cathedral Parish in Pittsburgh.
Family and friends will gather for a Catholic Rite of Committal at Mount Union Church Cemetery at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, with Father Ed Tetteh officiating.
