CultureHub Residency Open Call | 2026-2027 (Due May 20)
CultureHub Residency Open Call | 2026-2027
Deadline: May 20th, 2026
The CultureHub Residency Program supports artists experimenting with emerging technologies in search of new artistic forms. We are seeking artists developing work that is both critically and imaginatively informed by technology. Residencies are open to artists living and working in Los Angeles, CA and New York, NY.
CultureHub Los Angeles will continue to expand our local residency program and offer residents time to target specific areas of their project’s development. Three residents will receive one-two weeks of time, space, technical support, and presentation opportunities in the LA studio. Projects can take advantage of CultureHub LA’s 5:1 Kalio Audio surround system, modular studio configuration, and flexible exhibition space. We encourage proposals for immersive audio environments, installations, experimental spatial design, tech-infused textiles/sculpture, and sensory/physical exploration.
Themes of particular interest: ecological responsibility, tech ethics, integration of old+new tech, localized networks, human connection, and sustainability.
In New York, the residency program is evolving. CultureHub New York is initiating joint international residencies with three partner locations. One New York artist will be selected for each international joint residency and will receive time and space both in New York at CultureHub and abroad at the international partner location. Each joint residency will have a different thematic focus and will be supported by CultureHub New York and our international partner:
CultureHub New York → DOCKdigital - Berlin, Germany: Space + Algorithms
CultureHub New York → Société des arts technologiques (SAT) - Montréal, Canada: Hybridization of Spaces & Telematic Installation
CultureHub New York → La MaMa Umbria - Spoleto, Italy: Data, Narrative, and Performance
Artists can only apply for one of the residency opportunities. Artists based in New York or Los Angeles and who are not currently enrolled in a degree-earning program will be considered for the residency program. Artists should apply with a project to develop. Projects can utilize technologies such as telepresence, virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, robotics, creative coding, live web, game design, etc. and can be at various stages of development.
The Open Call will begin accepting applications on April 24 with a deadline of May 20.
International partners: DOCKdigital (Berlin, Germany), Société des arts technologiques (Montréal, Canada), and La MaMa Umbria (Spoleto, Italy)
CultureHub envisions a world where technology amplifies our humanity rather than diminishes it. We support artists who critically examine technology from a wide array of mediums and creative perspectives. We encourage applicants to learn about our current and past Resident Artists and view past projects prior to submitting an application.
We will support 3 residencies in Los Angeles. We will support 1 artist per international travel opportunity in New York (3 artists total). Artists are only eligible to apply for one residency opportunity. We will review one application per artist.
