Culture & Animals Foundation Grants (Due Jan. 31)

Culture & Animals Foundation Grants
Deadline: January 31st, 2026

In 2026, the Culture & Animals Foundation (CAF) is making available $US 40,000 in grants for scholars and activists with a commitment to animal rights. Such individuals are invited to apply (maximum amount $US 5000) for a project under the areas of creativity, performance, and research. The application window is January 1–31, and the application form will be available here on January 1st.

In 2025, CAF received 235 applications and gave 15 grants. Due to the high volume of applications for a limited pool of money, applicants are advised to pay special attention to CAF’s criteria (see Grant Essential Information), and only to apply if they are confident they will complete their project on time and on budget. Any application that does not provide a detailed budget and timeline or is over $US 5000 will automatically be rejected.

This year, CAF is using the platform Slideroom for its grant applications. When you apply, you will be directed to open an account in Slideroom. Neither CAF nor Slideroom will use the program for any other purposes than to receive the application and allow you to check on the status of your application. On Slideroom, you will be asked to complete a checklist affirming you understand our criteria, before moving on to the application form. Do not complete the application form if you cannot complete the checklist.

In 2026, CAF is teaming up with the American Anti-Vivisection Society (AAVS) to sponsor two grants of up to $US 5000. Applicants are invited to submit proposals for projects that critique, re-imagine, or reframe current scientific exploration or knowledge, reflect on our specific or general responsibilities toward other-than-human animals, and/or consider possible futures for science and animals—in an artistic expression of their choosing. Works involving multimedia and/or interdisciplinary or incorporate science are encouraged.
