2026 Performing Arts Sponsorship Open Call - Tomayko Foundation

Each year, the Tomayko Foundation provides support for one organization located in the Pittsburgh region who is working with living artists, or an individual based in the Pittsburgh region working on an independent project to create new performative work. Organizations with a strong performing arts program and individuals who are working on independent performance projects for 2026 or early 2027 are welcome to submit applications. Eligible projects include:

  • New works in the categories of dance/choreography, theater, cinema, or music

  • Support of an artist-in-residence who is working on a specific project/performance

  • Support for directors or choreographers who are working towards a project that will be produced in 2026 or early 2027

  • Support of a new production that will be performed/viewed in 2026 or early 2027

  • Travel or living stipend for actors/dancers/musicians/choreographers/directors who are working on a new project to be performed or viewed in Pittsburgh


One sponsorship in the amount of $5,000 will be granted to an organization or individual based on the strength of the proposal. Proposals can be submitted via Slideroom and should include the following information:

  • Name of performers and dates of performance

  • Description of the project (please reference the list of judging criteria below for what to include in this section)

  • Timeline

  • Professional background of lead performer/director/choreographer seeking sponsorship

  • Project budget and other funding sources (please note you are not required to submit an organizational budget, project budgets preferred)

  • Contact information for organization or individual

  • Work samples


The winner of the sponsorship will be selected by an independent panel of experts in the field of performing arts. Panelists use the following criteria to judge each proposal, it is strongly recommended that applicants try to answer these questions within their proposals:

  • Does the proposal follow the application guidelines?

  • Does the proposal clearly outline and define the project scope and how funds will be utilized?

  • Is the proposed project feasible within the timeframe and with the provided budget?

  • Does the proposed project align with the Tomayko Foundation’s mission to foster individuall creativity through education and the arts?

  • Does the project serve the local community in a meaningful way?

  • Will the work be accessible to a diverse audience?

  • Does the work spark change or dialog surrounding a critical issue?


Applications are accepted from Monday, January 19 through February 20, 2026. Organizations/individuals will be notified of the funding decision no later than March 20, 2026. Organizations in the Pittsburgh region with budgets no greater than $500,000 are eligible for funding, individuals must be 18 years of age and live and work in Pittsburgh.
