Call for Participation: MATRIARCHS - Sibyls Shrine (Due Oct. 8)
Call for Participation: MATRIARCHS - Sibyls Shrine
Deadline: October 8th, 2025
“What is a matriarch?
Traditionally, a matriarch is a woman who leads a family, community, or lineage—a powerful, nurturing figure whose presence anchors others. For this exhibition, we embrace a broader, more inclusive definition: a matriarchal figure can be anyone—regardless of gender—who embodies generational leadership, care, and resilience.
Your matriarch may be an ancestor who still guides you, or someone who is living and active in your life today. This project honors both kinds of presence, those who came before us and those still walking alongside us.
All submitted images will be printed, framed, and displayed in a salon-style installation, forming a large-scale collective quilt that weaves all of our matriarchs together. Alongside each image, we will display:
Your name
The name of your matriarchal figure
A short personal statement about who they are to you and why you see them as a matriarch
An object for our collective altar (if you desire)
We look forward to learning about the matriarchs who live through you.
With care,
Sibyls Shrine”
