2026 Spring Open Call - Tomayko Foundation

The Tomayko Foundation is pleased to announce an Open Call for Art. Artists living and working in Pittsburgh are invited to submit works for participation in a Spring exhibition which will be on view at the Tomayko Foundation, this exhibition is juried by Alyssa Velazquez.
As the exhibition’s framework will not be predetermined, instead generated through the jurying process, artists working across all mediums are encouraged to submit work. Artists working in material and craft-driven experimentation(s) and conceptual frameworks that animate art through live time-based mediums inclusive of experimental dance, music, readings, and perfromance art are encouraged to apply to be considered for ongoing programmatic opportunity.
About the juror: Alyssa Velazquez is an assistant curator at the Carnegie Museum of Art. Her work has been featured or is forthcoming in filling station, S/He Speaks 2: Voices of Women, Trans & Nonbinary Folx, Burnaway, and AutoStraddle. Residencies include Storyknife, and as a Freshworks Artist at Kelly Strayhorn Theater. Velazquez was selected as a 2026 Center for Craft Curatorial Fellow, a 2024 Lambda Literary Fellow, and was invited to join PlayPenn’s 2024-2025 Playwrights Cohort.
Artists are asked to submit 2-5 artworks. Uploads of 1-5 images are permitted to show detail or other angles of the work if preferred. All submitted artworks must be available to exhibit during the entirety of the exhibition. No substitutions will be permitted. If the artwork become unavailable for display prior to the opening, the artwork and the artist will not be included in the exhibition. With the exception of video, performance, or other mediums not generally suited for sale, the Tomayko Foundation will make its best effort to facilate art sales. Artist comission from any sale is 60% of list price.
For each artwork submission, artists must include the title, date, medium, dimensions (unframed/framed), and price of the work. the following materials are restricted from entry: live or dead plant materials, organic materials such as food products that will decompose during the exhibition, any material that shows evidence of insect infestation or mold growth, glitter, and toxic or hazerdous materials. Any special installation needs must be mentioned in the application. 2-D and 3-D artwork much be gallery ready, including ready to hang or display, and/or provide installation instructions as needed. Works do not need to be framed, but hanging methods must be provided or noted.
For installation work: artists may provide clear and concise instructions for install, or make arrangements to install their own work.
For video work: include a viewing link for the work with the necessary details of the work, title, date, medium, and length. Artists may be asked to provide the necessary equipment needed to view or experience the piece throughout the duration of the exhibition.
