Craigardan Creative Arts Residency (Due Jan. 15)
Craigardan Creative Arts Residency
Deadline: January 15th, 2025
Founded in 2016 by ceramic artists, Craigardan is a nonprofit arts organization and educational working farm that leveragas collective creativity for social good. We bring people toguther for place-based and interdisciplinary learning, providing croative residencies, courses, and events that span diverse artistic and knowledge disciplines in orderto foster curiosity, inquiry, and collaboration.
Craigardan supports ceramic, literary, visual, and performarice artists, as well as farmers, chefs, activists, scholars, and researchers from the Adirondack region and around the world. We cultivate a dynamic that amplifies each individual's work and activates collective creativity within the community. We believe that fostering the interaction between artists and the local public is as important as providing sheltered time to artists to further their creative practices.
As an organization deeply rooted in this region's unique history, Craigardan exists at the nexus of processes (re)making this region's present and future: environmental conservation, the resurgence of small farms, rural economic revitalization, and cultural/social activism.
By developing interdependent connections within our local Adirondack community, we nurture a deep sense of place through people, culture, food stories, and the exchange of ideas and skills. With a built in focus on equitable exchange across a wide range of disciplines, Craigardan offers an experience that ties the creative process to larger contexts. This experience leads to new questions and new initiatives; and it generates positive social change through collective creativity.
Sliding scale scholarships are available based on individual need. We trust applicants to tell us what they need — applicants choose to apply for one of three funding options:
Supporting - [$1850 Per Week Fee, no Scholarship] This is the actual cost of a residency week. Choosing this rate means that you are making scholarship funds available for others.
Sustaining - [$1000 Per Week Fee after $850 weekly Scholarship] Choosing this scholarship means that you need some financial support in order to attend, but not the full scholarship - which leaves some scholarship funds available for others.
Supported - [$500 Per Week Fee after $1350 weekly Scholarship] This is our maximum scholarship available for artists who genuinely need substantial financial assistance to attend.
Scholarships are competitive and limited, and larger scholarships are highly competitive. You may not apply for more than one option, so be sure to apply to the scholarship option that meets your actual financial need. Thanks to the generosity of our grantors and donors, Craigardan awards more than $130,000 in scholarships annually.
