Request for Qualifications for Public Art Mural at Entrance to Sharpsburg Business District
Deadline: April 30th, 2024

Artspiration seeks to commission an artist/team to design a 240 square foot public art mural at 701 Main Street, Sharpsburg, PA 15215 on the side of Conicella Family Dentistry, LLC. This project was supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The artist(s) will collaborate with Artspiration to conduct community engagement and outreach efforts to incorporate local feedback in the design.

The goal of the project is to promote a positive image of Sharpsburg by saying “Welcome to Sharpsburg” that incorporates themes of history, beautification, community, and collaboration through a mural. This opportunity is open to artists who have a dedication to community engagement with preference for someone with a connection to or appreciation for the river towns of Pittsburgh. Artspiration has a focus on community resilience, inclusivity, dignity, and well-being. Public art projects and events that center around "place making" and "place keeping" are priorities for our organization as both concepts help inspire community pride.

In addition to a paid interview the budget for this project is $7200 total including:

● Artists’ time including but not limited to: community meetings, visioning process and unveiling events

● Materials & supplies, and installation

Artspiration will help secure scaffolding or a lift for installation. Artspiration encourages all artists who believe they can thrive in this project to apply. Mentorship will be available if needed.
