Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts Residency: (Due Sep. 1)


The mission of KHN Center for the Arts is to encourage and support established and emerging visual artists, composers and writers by providing working and living environments that allow for uninterrupted time for work, reflection and creative growth and development. The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City, NE offers 2- to 8-week residencies year-round for writers, visual artists, and music composers. Approximately 60 residencies are awarded per year. Artists-in-residence periodically volunteer to offer public talks, performances, exhibitions, or presentations, and the center frequently invites the public to open studio events to interact with resident artists.

Accommodation Information 

Each resident has a private bedroom and a private bathroom within an apartment shared with one other person. Each apartment has a kitchen (meals are the responsibility of residents). The building has laundry facilities and a lounge with a television and phone. Furnishings and linens are provided.

Studio Information 

Visual artists work in one of three studios, two of which are approx. 425sq. ft. and one that is 258sq. ft. Writers have private studios within the apartments. There is a separate composer studio with an upright piano.

Technical Information 

Special equipment available: Scroll saw, table saw, sp15 vandercook printing press, one aluminum easel, one wooden easel. Some hand tools available. Artists are encourage to bring all equipment/supplies necessary to their process. Musicians/Composers: a studio with an upright piano; two Dynaudio Acoustics BM5A monitors and a Mackie 4-channel compact mixer.
