Curatorial Theme

By the People 2019 will focus on critical work by artists exploring issues marginalized communities currently face within the United States. The work will investigate questions of equality and fairness and will highlight the difficulties and experiences of those who struggle to have a voice. Through film, video, installation and sculpture, the artists will draw inspiration from various historical and contemporary sources to offer new perspectives and alternate narratives that complicate fact and memory. These innovative artworks aim to compel audiences to hope for a more compassionate world and ultimately to work towards a more equitable future for all.

Curator

By the People 2019 will be curated by Jessica Stafford Davis, founder of The Agora Culture, a multi-cultural arts platform that connects both emerging and well-known artists with collectors.
