Immaculate Heart of Mary
This view of Polish Hill, Pittsburgh, caught me by surprise last winter. As I turned a corner, the early evening light illuminated the domes of Immaculate Heart of Mary church. I only had time to do a small 8" x 10" study and take a photo. Both were used as sources for this painting. I especially liked the planes of light and shadow on the houses and snow. The “worm's eye perspective” added additional height to the church. My idea for the painting was to show how powerful the church’s architecture can be, especially when compared to the houses that surround it.
