Visual Arts Career Orientation Program

Welcome to a new and exciting year of VACOP. This program continues to be supported by the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and funded by the Grable Foundation grant. My name is Jennifer Brunner and I will be administrating the day to day details of the program. Below you will find the outline of this year's schedule. Please contact me promptly if you have any time, space, or date constraints so that they can be addressed prior to finalizing the calendar. Please respond that you received this information so that I know everyone has the same information

Our high school groups will include 15-20 students. Each student is highly encouraged to attend all six activities. Students are expected to bring bag lunches. A thirty-minute or less lunch break will be set by the workshop instructor. Carrick and Seton LeSalle students will be provided bus transportation through the grant. This year our facilitators are Barry Winsand for Carrick, Laura Tabakman for AIU3, and Kitty Spangler for SLSHS. The facilitator will purchase a nonperishable snack of water, juice, crackers, granola, etc. . . Please submit the receipts to me for reimbursement, up to $20. The facilitators are encouraged to use each other as substitutes if they are not able to attend a workshop. Please notify me of any changes. Checks will be mailed following each workshop from the AAPGH office. All receipts need to be received by Jennifer Brunner prior to payment. Teachers may purchase supplies for each school group up to $100.

Teachers and facilitators are requested to arrive 30 -45 minutes prior to the beginning of class so as to prepare for class and to remain after the students depart in order to insure that the room and materials are cleaned up.

Each workshop will include:

  1. The Teacher/ Artist's self introduction
  2. A general description of the day's technique/s and application in today's world
  3. Directions for the lesson of the day
  4. Guidance and feedback throughout the day
  5. A 30 minute or less lunch break
  6. A reflection and response time on each students art piece and summation for the day
  7. REMIND THE STUDENTS TO SAVE AND/OR COMPLETE THEIR WORK FOR THE END OF THE YEAR EXHIBIT
  8. Clean-up and departure

We will need two student volunteers from each school to assist with the show planning and details. This year we hope to have a juror and awards.

Finally, we will again provide a daylong art experience for the YMCA Camp kids at the Trolley Station, Oral History Center. We will need @ 9 artists and @3 facilitators. We will also coordinate the projects around a theme. Your input is encouraged.
